My benchmark place had jumped from $3.08 to $3.15 today, while Walmart remained at $3.09. The Exxon across the street from Walmart was up to $3.29. A Phillips 66, which is normally a high outlier, was at a modest $3.11.

Here’s how lucky you Texans are in regard to gas prices:  I paid $3.45.9 at a Mobil station in Greenfield, MA, today.  That’s 9 cents cheaper than I paid last week here in CT when tanking up another vehicle.

We paid a big price for that cheaper gas, though, Bill. It snowed here yesterday. grin

This is our forecast from the National Weather Services as of 26 Dec 6:56 pm EST:  “Rain ...heavy at times [At 7:16 PM it is already wrong because it is now snowing, not raining.] Patchy fog. Low around 38 [wrong - it is now 33] Windy, with a east wind 29 to 36 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph.[I hope not.]  Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.” [They mean 1 to 2 inches of rain - that’s OK because for 2012 we are 16” below normal]  Up where I bought gas earlier today they are forecasting 7-11 inches of snow.

I noticed the station (Stripes) closest to the base jumped from $3.07 to $3.12 some time during the day today.  I was below a quarter of a tank, so I stopped at the convenience store closer to home to fill up.  It was still at $3.05 as was the 7-Eleven a little further down the road.  Maybe Stripes jumped the gun.  It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened.
Sam’s selling at $3.01 according to GasBuddy.
