Ami Charlie in Rimbach says a side trip or day trip still isn’t out of the question during our Rimbach reunion in June. But to make it happen, he needs some information:

Hi People,

I might be able to arrange some kind of a side trip, but what i would need real fast is, No. 1 who is coming when, No. 2 are there still enough people interrested in a side trip, No. 3 the weekend 12, 13, 14, i would say is pretty well planned already. Fri. beertent, sat. garden party in Kotzting, Sun. going up the hill, or we drop all that and plan a trip for the weekend, or we plan a trip before the 12th if there are enough people intrested.

No. 4 as a “side Trip” that would mean staying somewhere overnight, what about the people who already booked there rooms? how about day trips?

If you people can give me answers to No. 1 to 4 real soon, i will go out and see what i can set up.

Ami Charlie

I’d be interested in some sort of side trip, Charlie, but I have no idea what. I’m open!

Right now, I haven’t yet bought tickets. But I’m eyeing a U.S. departure date of the Wednesday prior to the Rimbach fest. That would put us in Germany on Thursday with a day to travel to Rimbach and be there in time for afternoon beers and Friday’s fest opening.

If something is put together before I buy tickets — or at least a plan — we can stay longer to cover it. Otherwise, we’ll probably head back home the following Tuesday or Wednesday out of FRA, maybe even taking a day see a bit of modern Frankfurt itself.

I’m open for some side trip fun, though!

Just to clarify — and agree with Pivo: any side trips should be planned for after the gathering with our German comrades and after the Rimbach fest events. We definitely want to take part in those.

There was some talk earlier of perhaps inviting our German comrades to the Rimbach fest with us. Seems a grand idea, but I know from last time that there are some traditions and formalities to be observed, so perhaps Charlie could advise on those.

I would be interested in a side trip on Sunday, perhaps to C’erkov or other site of interest.  Domaz’lice would also be nice.  Cindy’s asthma prevented her from enjoying the trip to the old site and the Schoenblick.

John

I remembered last reunions troubles up at the Schönblick, but a reunion without that inclusive trip would be very disappointing I believe for everyone. I have not talked to Ami Charlie about it but for those few of us that have troubles on the last half of that trip or possibly as we get older (and that is happening) other transportation can be arranged. As with the marching to the bier tent I think the Schönblick visit is a pillar of the reunion activity.

It is very good you mentioned health difficulties at this stage. I think we all can appreciate those last few kilometres of fresh air and ankle bending acrobatics.

Of course I am torn here.  I love the old site, the view and the Schoenblick.  Too much beauty and too many memories. Not to mention the good food!

I also think the Schönblick is a pillar, or mantra, of a visit “home.”
I am looking forward to the Rimbach march to the bierzahlt and the biergarten with our German comrades.
