I met up with the ASAFtDevens group today at Tiny’s Restaurant, Ayer, Mass (just about 5 minutes drive from Ft. Devens).. There were 8 besides me. Quite a lively group and I met up with one guy, Harry (Ron) Youngblood who was the electronics instructor for all the automated equipment when Rimbach was being set up for automation link to Augsburg. What a small world!
Here is the message I sent them:
What a please meeting 8 of the ASADevens Group at Tiny’s Restaurant, Ayer MA, today!
I had promised Bob Isaacs for over a year that I would ‘try to get to one of the luncheons!’
Well I finally made it today ..... he first time in 42 years that I have been to Ayer!
I’m sorry, I’ve already forgotten some names. I arrived early from Nashua where i live about 10:45 and no one was there. I mentioned this the waitresses and boss and told him I guessed there would be 4-5 coming and he set us up a table.
A little bit about my background. I was USASA Sept. 1965 to Sept. 1969. After Basic in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, I came to Devens for 98J20 (Elint operator) school; then one year in shiny Sinop-by-the-sea; back to Devens for 98J30 (Elint analysis) school; then on to Germany’s Herzo Base and to the Rimbach outstation. I am active with the Rimbachvets group. You can visit out web site at: http://www.rimbachvets.org
Anyway, I hope to come again soon .... there is always a connection with those you served with! Besides that all-you-can-eat fried Haddock for ten bucks is alone worth the trip! Next time perhaps some one will have to time to give me a short tour around Ft. Devens. After all, it’s been 42 years!
