Surprised there hasn’t been more interest in this. I don’t think we’re talking about an imminent thing. But it’s worth talking about now. grin

Come on, guys and gals. Who else would vote yes? It would be great to smell that salt air and look out over Monterey Bay again, plus maybe tour today’s DLI, if it could be arranged. Plus, there’s now plenty to see and do around Monterey, I hear and read.

Perhaps there is some fear that the constant barking of sea lions would remind some of barking on the list?  On a more serious nore, Monterey offers a lot more for visitors than when I was at the Presidio.  There are still a lot of good watering holes there.

I’m IN!  Unless I’m completely broke by then.  Elmendorf AFB daughter getting married up there this Friday night to another Zoomie.  Air Force wedding - the real one is here in PA next August, courtesy of Mom and Dad.  Army ROTC U of Pitt daughter graduates next spring, will be commissioned at Ft. Lewis - we plan to attend that, too.  Daughter # 3 starts college next fall.  I might have to beg for another Rimbach reunion at the Schmankerl Stube here in Hagerstown so I can afford to attend….  :=)

Count me in!

Last time I was there was 1986 or 1987.  Cesky was still alive and 1 instructor was still there from the 60’s.  I went in speaking Cesky and he was so happy to hear that someone could remember what was taught almost 20 years prior.

Of course by then, like now all the buildings changed to nice new classrooms, and after 911 the base is closed to those without official business to be there.

I’d love to go to the old EM club where I first learned to drink mixed drinks!  Great view of the bay.

When are we going?

Hi, Jim.

No one’s gotten to the part about when. I think when Glenn started talking about it he mentioned maybe spring or fall 2010 as possibilities. But I’m up for whenever! (The quicker the better. I’m bored and staring Hallothanksmas right in the face.)

I’m open to suggestions as to when.  I was hoping to get a TDY to DLI in November, but that looks like it’s not going to happen.  If I’d gone, I would have checked in with the Alumni Association to see what they could do for us.  I can contact them via e-mail and see what they offer as far as support for reunions.  Before 9/11 it was a lot easier, naturally.

I’d suggest going ahead with emailing them, Glenn. Then you’d know what’s available for us tour-wise and such, and maybe even best or better times. Then we can start planning accordingly.

Worst case would be if they no longer offer tours or such at all, but I doubt the situation has become that harsh. Even then, I’d still go for a Monterey reunion. It’s such a beautiful area, and I haven’t been back since graduating.

I sent this to the List, but thought I’d post it here to see how many others might be seriously interested in reuniting in Monterey next November:

DLIAA would like to assist you with the reunion if you send me the details,;e.g., dates, number of attendees, etc.  We can arrange a half day visit to the Institute, including meeting with the Commandant, or his rep, a tour of the Presidio, class visits, etc.  I will make all the coordination with the Protocol Officer, the DLI Historian, and the Russian School.  Please advise.

What about the Czech school? Oh ... never mind. grin

Though I’d prefer sooner than next November, just ‘cause I’m anxious to go, count me (us) in! Sounds like it would be a super visit. Darned nice service by the alumni group!

I think the reason he mentioned Russian school is because I submitted the online form saying I was a RU school grad.  I’m sure they can arrange classroom visits for any language we wish.  I mentioned November because that’s when the DLI anniversary bash is held.  And, by November, we should be able to get off season rates (maybe).

Yeah, too bad they don’t teach Czech any longer.

I’d be for attending the anniversary party while there, too.

I’d be interested too.  November - still working and can’t do the 1st week of the month.  Any other part of November would be good - even Thanksgiving, although I’m sure that would keep some away.

Bill, if you’re bored lets at least do a TX gathering.  We can do that as soon as you like.  Phil
